Privacy Policy
Knob, Light Mode for YouTube Music. Last updated 8 October 2026.
The short version
Knob does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data. It makes zero network requests. There is no server, no account, and no analytics.
What Knob stores
One value: the position you selected on the dial.
lightwhen you pick Onsystemwhen you pick Systemoffwhen you pick Off
There are no user identifiers, no browsing history, no listening activity, and no telemetry.
Where that value is stored
Your position is saved with the standard WebExtension storage API, chrome.storage.sync or
browser.storage.sync. That means:
- It is held locally inside your browser profile.
- If you are signed in to a browser account on Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, your browser vendor may sync this single setting across your signed-in devices as part of normal profile sync. That sync is run by the browser, not by us, and we never receive a copy.
Knob also mirrors the same value into local storage under the key __knob. That lets the theme be
applied before the page paints, which is what prevents the dark-mode flash when you open YouTube Music.
Permissions and why each is requested
Knob requests no other permissions and has no host access to any site other than music.youtube.com.
What Knob does not do
- No collection of personal information.
- No reading, access, or recording of your browsing history.
- No remote server requests. The extension makes no network calls of any kind.
- No advertising, tracking scripts, or third-party code.
- No execution of remotely hosted code. Every asset ships inside the extension package.
Data sold or shared
None. No personal data is sold, shared, or transferred to any third party, because none is collected in the first place.
Children
Knob is a theme for a music service and is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and the new version ships with the extension update that introduces it.
